Powell Family Law is proud to share that Director, Natalie Powell, was recently named a finalist for the 2025 Dame Quentin Bryce Domestic Violence Prevention Advocate Award. Presented by Women’s Legal Service Queensland and administered by the Queensland Law Society, this prestigious award recognises outstanding contributions to the prevention of domestic and family violence across the state.
The accolade celebrates individuals whose work has meaningfully advanced safety, advocacy, innovation and reform across legal, social, academic and community settings.
A Meaningful Honour
Natalie’s shortlisting for this award reflects her deep and longstanding commitment to supporting survivors of domestic and family violence. With more than 15 years’ experience practising in family law, domestic violence and child protection matters, Natalie has built her career on trauma-informed practice and advocacy for women and children facing significant risk.
Natalie holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Laws from QUT. Her postgraduate research focused on therapeutic jurisprudence and the role of specialist courts—an approach that continues to inform her work today, particularly in high-risk parenting matters and complex property settlements involving financial abuse.
A Decade of Service to Women’s Legal Service Queensland
Natalie has maintained a strong connection with Women’s Legal Service Queensland for more than a decade. During that time, she has provided pro bono advice to hundreds of women experiencing domestic and family violence, many of whom sought support during some of the most critical and dangerous periods of their lives.
In addition to her legal work, Natalie has been a dedicated fundraiser for WLSQ, participating in major initiatives such as River to Rooftop, the Epic Walk for DV, and Dancing CEOs. In 2025, she received the Legacy Award in recognition of her significant fundraising impact and ongoing advocacy.
Congratulations to the 2025 Award Recipient
Natalie extends her warmest congratulations to Jason Garrick, the recipient of the 2025 Dame Quentin Bryce Domestic Violence Prevention Advocate Award. Domestic violence prevention is demanding, often unseen work, and it is encouraging to see individuals—especially men working meaningfully in this space—receive recognition for their sustained contributions. Jason’s commitment to improving safety for women and children in Queensland is commendable and deserving of this honour.
Continuing the Work
Natalie remains committed to advocating for systemic reform, improving the legal response to domestic and family violence, and supporting survivors through trauma-informed, accessible, and client-centred legal services.
Her recognition as a finalist is a reflection not only of her professional contributions, but of her unwavering dedication to creating safer futures for Queensland families.
